Only a week after the conclusion of the Candidates Tournament in London, the officials of Tamil Nadu State have come forward to organize the FIDE World Championship Match between Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa confirmed that the state government will allot Rs 29 crore for the event.

The All India Chess Federation immediately exercised its right of a first option given by FIDE prior to the 2012 World Championship Match in Moscow.

Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary of All India Chess Federation, sumarized the process: “We started our move even before the Challenger started. We had assurance from FIDE that we can hold the World Championship this year without a bidding and fixed a deadline of 10th April 2013 for us to confirm or otherwise. The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Ms J.Jayalalithaa is a keen sports enthusiast and she was willingly sanctioned the amount.”
